Everything is out of kilter and Dash doesn’t seem to understand. It seems as though Lily’s family is changing, with a permanent change suggested for her grandfather, and then bad news from her brother. She’s further retreating from school, family and her traditional festive planning. It leads to The Twelve Days of Dash & Lily wherein he’s desperately trying to catch up and prove he can be in the spirit, while Lily’s retreating. Then there are his efforts to make amends, all of which seem forced and out of character. Not only has he not returned her words, but he’s seemingly absent. Therefore when Lily expresses her love for Dash and he is not available to call upon when there’s an emergency with her grandfather, she’s crushed. After all, it’s not as though his Christmas experiences have been particularly nurturing, while Lily’s extensive family and joy in the season offer him little choice but to jump right in! Furthermore, Dash and Lily have been an item for nearly a whole year! It seems as though Dash is prepared to take Lily’s lead on how Christmas should be approached and celebrated.
